Nicholas Shanayda

Nicholas Shanayda, 92, of Harmony Twp., died Sunday, May 24, 2015, in Rochester Manor.

Born May 3, 1923, in Ford City, PA, a son of the late Steve and Mary Shayka Shanayda, he was retired from Bethlehem Steel. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, UNA No. 161, and the Ambridge American Legion Post 341. He was a pilot with the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Savie Shanayda, on February 24, 2015.

Surviving are a son, Nicholas S. Shanayda, Bellevue, WA; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and George Moore, Economy, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. in the BOHN-MATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 1099 Maplewood Ave., Ambridge, where a service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. in SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father Michael Polosky officiating.

Interment will follow in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.

Parastas service will be held Friday at 5 p.m. in the funeral home.

The Beaver County Special Unit will meet at 12:45 p.m. at the cemetery to provide full military honors
