Sharon Lee Connolly, age 70, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh after a brief battle with cancer. Sharon was born to Francis and Katherine Bodziak on October 15, 1952 in Sewickley, PA. She graduated from Quaker Valley High School and, at age 17, started her lifelong career as an executive administrative assistant at Ampco-Pittsburgh, then called Wycoff Drawn Steel Company, and its subsidiary company Union Electric Steel. Sharon sincerely valued her job and the relationships she built over the last five decades.
It was at Wycoff that she met the love of her life, John Connolly, and they married on July 6, 1974. Shortly after her cancer diagnosis, John and Sharon celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary and lived out their vow of “in sickness and in health”. She was a proud and devoted mother to their daughter Kristie Connolly, PhD, of Rockville, MD. Sharon’s sweet demeanor and caring spirit made their home a safe and fun after-school hangout spot for Kristie’s childhood friends, some of whom she adopted as her own. Sharon was always an active mom and engaged in the parent-teachers association through the years. During the holidays, everyone looked forward to seeing what delicious and beautifully decorated cookies she would bake and share.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and her aunt, Isabelle Schrecker, for whom she was both a caretaker and card playing companion for many years at the Connolly’s home.
She was a longtime member of St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sewickley. To honor Sharon’s love of her beloved Maltese dogs and all animals, the family requests that donations be made to Animal Friends, 562 Camp Horne Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15237, in lieu of flowers.
