Robert E. “Buzz” Shrum, 89, of Harmony Twp., passed away Thursday May 14, 2026, Heritage Valley Beaver. Buzz was one of five children born to the late Oakey and Margaret Leist Shrum, in Rochester, PA, on January 21, 1937. Buzz’s family was his most cherished asset and they will miss him dearly. He was caring, quiet and generous man who would go out of his way to help anyone. Buzz was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, completing his basic training at Lackland AFB. While in the Air Force, he was stationed at Dover AFB in Delaware and served in France, Germany, India, Asia and many different countries throughout Africa. Buzz was a 17 year veteran of the PA Air National Guard, retiring in 1980 at the rank of Master Sergeant. He also spent 30 years in the Blooming Mill of LTV’s Aliquippa Works. Buzz retired in 1998 after 9 years with Help-UR-Self candy company as warehouse manager. Buzz enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Polish Falcons golf league for many years. A second hobby was belonging to a civil war reenactment group, the 63rd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. Always a loving husband, father and grandfather, he will be missed by his wife of 60 years, Rosemary Vobrak Shrum, his son, Rob Shrum and wife Lynn, Beaver and grandchildren Ryan and Marissa Shrum, who were truly the apple of his eye and he cherished being called “PaPa Buzz” by them. Also surviving is one sister, Debbie Galvan, Ambridge, special nephew, Kenneth Tkatch, Boardman, OH, and great nephew, Dr. Kris Tkatch, Elmira, NY, and numerous other nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Buzz was preceded in death by a brother Kenneth Shrum, two sisters, Shirley Galzarano, Margaret Wory and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Irene and Alfred Tkatch. At Buzz’s request, there will be no viewing. A private Mass of Christian Burial was held at Good Samaritan Church. Interment followed at Good Samaritan Cemetery, Fair Oaks, with the Beaver County Special Unit providing full military honors. BOHN-MATICH FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 1099 Maplewood Ave., Ambridge, was in charge of arrangements. “ Grieve not…nor speak of me with tears…but laugh and talk of me…as though I were beside you.
