Michael Kolesar Obituary

Michael Jerome “Mike” “Boo Guman” “Boo” “Bernie” “Koley” “Francis” Kolesar, 58, of Sewickley, beloved by so many, passed away on November 5, 2023. Born September 28, 1965, Sewickley, he was the son of Helen Figel Kolesar, Sewickley, and the late Paul Edward Kolesar. He spent his final days surrounded by loved ones from near and far who made sure he knew of his tremendous, everlasting impact.

Mike was a pillar of the Sewickley community and rarely missed a Quaker Valley game. He was a graduate of the class of 1984 and had been inducted into the Hall of Fame for his prowess in football and baseball. He went on to coach the high school’s baseball team and mentor many young athletes.

After graduating from Geneva College, where he also played football, he built a career within the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Aviation. He was a treasured colleague and was known for his practical jokes as well as his unflinching support for anyone who needed it.

Each of the many nicknames he was given and bestowed upon others was a testament to his humor and good nature as well as how adored he was by his many friends spanning from coast to coast. His great number of friends was only outnumbered by those of the canine variety. He was always known to have treats on hand and knew every neighborhood dog by name.

In 2007, Mike married Becky who he lovingly called, “Mama Luce”. Mike and Becky were classmates from junior high through high school graduation and built a beautiful life in the Quaker Heights community. Together they served as gatherers and conveners of their planning neighborhood bar crawls, New Year's Eve parties, and countless celebrations. He was a loving father and a hero to his daughter Isabella as well as the family's pups who he rarely left home without. In addition to his mother, wife, and daughter, he is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Paul E. Jr. and Jennifer Kolesar, Mooresville, NC, one sister and brother-in-law, Helen L. and Fred Marsh, Lewes, Delaware and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of his magnificent life will be held on Saturday November 11, 2023, from 6:00pm-10:00pm at Sewickley Heights Golf Club. BOHN-MATICH FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 1099 Maplewood Ave., Ambridge, is in charge of arrangements.
