John Edward Uhernik, 74, of New Sewickley Township, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at Concordia at Villa St. Joseph, after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. Born on April 7, 1951 in Canonsburg, John was the son of the late John and Mary Uhernik of Ambridge. He was a 1969 graduate of Ambridge Area High School and continued his education at the Electronics Institute in Pittsburgh, becoming an electronics technician. He worked at WMBA Radio, where he held an FCC license. John proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Inchon. On August 12, 1972, John married the love of his life, Linda (Homjak), and together they built a beautiful life over the next 53 years. In addition to his devoted wife, he is survived by his daughter Marla Uhernik ; son Joshua Uhernik & his wife, Nicolette (Skonieczny), & their children Mariah, Gabriella, & Sebastian; daughter Leah Uhernik and her husband, Neil Kimbler. John is also survived by his twin sister Joyce Kurzawski ; brother James Uhernik & his wife, Jacqueline ; nieces/nephews, Philip Swaney, Lindsay Bowers (Homjak), & Maddison Anderson. John was a retired electrician with IBEW Local 712, where he spent his career working with skill, reliability, and a deep sense of pride in his craft. A man who loved the outdoors, John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and every chance to spend time in nature. He also enjoyed vacationing in Cherry Grove & marveling at the sun rises/sets, and the comically elegant pelicans. At home, he was the family’s trusted “Mr. Fix It,” always ready to repair, build, or lend a helping hand. Above all, he cherished time with his family — especially his grandchildren, who brought him endless joy. Those who knew John will forever remember him as patient, kind, and a gentle giant with a warm sense of humor. He was a dedicated husband and father, a generous soul, and someone who never hesitated to help anyone in need. John’s Christian faith was central to his life. In recent years, he regularly attended North Bridge Church in Cranberry Township, where he felt a deep and special connection to God and to the church family he found there. He was also a longtime member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and is a member of St. Luke the Evangelist, Good Samaritan Catholic Church. Friends will be received Monday December 8, 2025 from 3-7, BOHN-MATICH FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 1099 Maplewood Ave., Ambridge, where a service will be held Tuesday December 9, 2025 at 12:00 pm, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 pm at Good Samaritan Church.
