Elena Colella Zunic, 69, of Economy Borough, passed away on February 3, 2025 at UPMC Passavant Hospital, following an extended illness that she fought with grace and courage. Elena was born on May 3, 1955 to the late Rudy M. and Mary Ann Colella. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Rudy M. Colella Jr. Elena was a 1973 graduate of Ambridge Area High School and received an Associate’s Degree in Letters Arts and Science from Penn State University and her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management from Geneva College. Elena began her career working in the family-owned businesses, Thrills on Wheels Roller Rink and also a construction business with her father and brothers. Furthering her career, she joined Seubert & Associates, Inc., where she worked for ten years as a Surety Bond Practice Client Advisor becoming Senior Vice President- Surety Practice Leader at Marsh USA for 27 years until her retirement. During her work tenure, she received certification as an Associate in Fidelity and Surety Bonding and was a member of the National Association of Surety Bond Producers and the Pittsburgh Surety Association. Elena is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” Zunic, whom she married on her birthday in 1981. She is also survived by her step-daughters, Ana (Bill) Smith and Elizabeth (Miguel) DeLeon, and was Nana to grandsons, Derek (Samantha) Sheaffer, Dr. David (Marina) Trotta Jr., Miguel DeLeon and Zachery DeLeon and granddaughter, Jennifer (Dr. Jennifer Fung) Kokorugga-Fung and great-grandchildren, Haley, Kyle, Patrick, Maple, Owen, August, Jonah, Alexis and Alana and her cousins, Tonya Sheaffer and Jimmy Dascanio, who were like a daughter and son to her, along with her brother-in-law, Nick Zunic and sisters-in-law, Marie and Frances Zunic. Elena was the eldest of eight children (which earned her the nickname Queenie) and is survived by her sisters, Theresa, Rita, Carol and Amy Colella and brothers, Michael (Colleen) Colella and Joseph (Nancy Borkowski) Colella, nephew and niece and grand-nephews, several cousins and her aunt, Theresa Colalella. Elena was a kind, generous woman with a heart full of love, that she lavished on her family. She loved getting together with family on holidays, especially Christmas, and summertime swim parties and cookouts. She was an avid reader and always had a story to tell. We love her and will miss her. Friends will be received Thursday February 6, 2025 from 10:00am-12:00pm, BOHN-MATICH FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 1099 Maplewood Ave., Ambridge. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:30pm at St Luke the Evangelist/ Good Samaritan Church. A private interment will take place at a later date.
