Mary (Sylvester) Fontana

Mary Fontana Ambridge Mary Fontana, 89, a longtime resident of Ambridge, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2019, surrounded by love. Born August 22, 1929, in West Aliquippa, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Virginia (Simone) Sylvester. She was an Ambridge School Guard for 25 years, a member of the Christian Mothers, Italian Women’s Club and Good Samaritan Church. Mary’s greatest joy was her family and her best talent was being a wonderful grandmother and Nonna. We will always remember her delicious Sunday family dinners, her generosity and love of laughter and porch sitting with friends and neighbors She was the beloved wife of the late Serafina (Sam) Fontana, to whom she was married for 65 years and the dear mother of Chris Fontana and his wife, Cindy, Ambridge and Barbara (Fontana) Szafaryn and her husband, Brian, Florida. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Jaci (Sam) Turley, Joseph (Hannah) Szafaryn, Chris (Amy) Fontana, Matthew Szafaryn and Lexi Fontana. She was the most loved Nonna to her great-grandchildren, Madelynn Szafaryn and Serafina Fontana; two additional great-granddaughters due in a few weeks and a special niece, Michelle Fontana. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Carmen Sylvester. Friends will be received on Friday, August 23, 2019, from 4 to 8 p.m. at BOHN-MATICH FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 1099 Maplewood Ave., Ambridge, where a service will be held on Saturday at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. in the Good Samaritan Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery. The Christian Mothers will recite the rosary Friday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
