James C. Ross

James C. "J.C." Ross, 75, died unexpectedly February 6, 2017, at his residence.

Born July 15, 1941, in Rochester, Pa., a son of the late Harold and Alice (Wolz) Ross, he was a lifelong resident of Baden.

J.C. was a proud U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, serving in the 101st Airborne Division where he received commendations including sharpshooter (rifle) and parachutist badge to go along with his Vietnam Service Medal. He served several years as the Commander of the Beaver County Special Unit providing full military funeral honors for his comrades in arms. He was extremely proud to have participated in several hundred military services for his Beaver County military brothers during his years with the special unit. He was a lifetime member of the Baden American Legion and the Ambridge Sportsman's Club, where he also held a lifetime membership. He was an avid hunter in his younger days as well as an avid Steelers and Pitt football fan.

He graduated from Rochester Area High School in 1959 and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad with 35 years of service.

Surviving are his loving son, Christopher Ross, Ambridge, and his beloved granddaughter, Allyson Ross, Ambridge. He is also survived by his former wife and good friend, Mary Ross, Ambridge; a sister, Michelle Ross Manzo, Monaca; his niece, Norma Brown (Chris), Wytheville, Va.; Kim Kockler (Don), Harrisburg, Pa., and Michael Manzo (Shannon), Hershey, Pa., along with several great nieces and great nephews and numerous cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Norman Black; nephew, James Kyler Black; brother-in-law, Carl Manzo, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

There will be no viewing. A memorial service with military honors will be held at a later date (to be announced) in the BOHN-MATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 1099 Maplewood Ave., Ambridge. Interment with military honors will take place in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.

If so desired, the family suggests contributions in J.C.'s name to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund or any other related military charity honoring or helping our nation's veterans.
