Andrew Sopko, 94, of Baden, died Monday, February 19, 2018, in Villa St. Joseph. Born September 11, 1923, in Coal Ridge, Ohio, a son of the late Andrew and Julia Yeager Sopko, he was retired from the American Bridge Company, where he was the president of the local union for many years. He was a member of Holy Ghost Orthodox Church, Ambridge Eagles, Ambridge Odd Fellows, Ambridge VFW, Baden American Legion and was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran. Surviving are his wife of 74 years, Helen Karas Sopko; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Andrew J. Sopko, Baden, and Richard A. and Lillian Sopko, Franklin Park; two grandchildren, Tyler Sopko, Franklin Park, and Brent and his wife Amber Sopko, Leetsdale; a great-granddaughter, Berlynn Sopko; two step-grandchildren, Samantha and her husband Brian Schilling, Ross Twp., and Joseph and his wife Jenita Apel, McCandless Twp.; four step-great-grandchildren, Brock, Mack and Cole Apel, and Blake Schilling; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Nancy Sopko, Baden, and two sisters-in-law, Julia Lemon, Ambridge, and Hazel Sopko, Baden. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 p.m. until the time of Parastas service at 7:30 p.m. in BOHN-MATICH FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 1099 Maplewood Ave., Ambridge. Translation of the body to follow to Holy Ghost Orthodox Church. A funeral service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the church, with the Very Rev. Father William Evansky officiating. Interment will follow in Economy Cemetery. The Beaver County Special Unit will meet at 11 a.m. at the cemetery to provide full military honors.
