Nancy Marie (Baysura) Thompson, age 64, of Hopewell Township, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2017 while under the care of the Villa St. Joseph. Born in Sewickley on October 19, 1952, she was the beloved daughter of the late Stephen and Marie Baysura.

Nancy graduated from Ambridge Area High School and Waynesburg College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. She returned to her high school alma mater and taught social studies, psychology, and sociology for thirty-four years, retiring in 2011.

An avid history buff, Nancy would often punctuate remarks with a historical footnote. She loved life, her family, and her husband of twenty-five years, James Craig Thompson, who predeceased her in 2014. She often remarked those twenty-five years were "the best years of her life." Additionally, she loved her friends, her computer games, her turtles, and her shoes...and what a collection she had! She especially loved to travel to warm, sunny places where she made new friends and many happy memories at assorted beaches and islands in the Caribbean.

A fun-loving, sensitive, and caring person, Nancy will be remembered forever and missed deeply by her Waynesburg friends, her colleagues at Ambridge High, and especially her special friends who cared for her in her final few years.

She is survived by her most dearly beloved "Aunt Helen" Minnick who resides at Rochester Villa. After Nancy lost her mother, Aunt Helen became her second mother. The bond these two wonderful women shared shall forever and always remain unbreakable. Their love for one another is truly unconditional.

Also surviving is her stepson, James C. (Jamie) Thompson and his wife Lisa of Brandon, Mississippi, as well as several cousins from the Baysura and Minnick families. Additionally, Nancy is survived by her many friends and countless students whose lives she touched. Although her time on earth was abbreviated, Nancy left her unique indelible spirit with those who were blessed to know her.

Nancy's family and friends would like to thank the Sisters of St. Joseph and the outstanding staff in the Ebensburg neighborhood at the Villa St. Joseph for their compassionate care If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Villa St. Joseph or the Sisters of St. Joseph, 1030 State Street, Baden, PA 15005.

At Nancy's request, there is no public visitation. Private interment took place at Economy Cemetery. Arrangements were made through the BOHN-MATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 1099 Maplewood Ave., Ambridge, PA.
