Michael Burka, 97, of Baden, died Monday, August 7, 2017, in the Brighton Rehab & Wellness Center.
Born November 2, 1919, in Ambridge, a son of the late John and Eugina Kit Burka, he owned and operated Burka Construction. He was a master sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, having served in the Pacific.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean M. Burka, on January 5, 2015; two brothers, Joseph and Andrew Burka, and four sisters, Mary Brown, Kay Fletcher, Ann Mustio and Jenny Harrison.
Surviving are four daughters and three sons-in-law, Donna and Joseph Makowski, Baden; Michalene Durf, Florida; Joyce and Guy LaFrance, Colorado, and Laura and Mark Cartier, California; five grandchildren, Jody Kopriva, Lori Donahue, Sommer Durf, Kevin and Nicole Cartier; three great-grandchildren, Andrew and Luke Kopriva, and Kathryn Donahue; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Frank Roppo, and Arthur and Vonnie Roppo, all of Baden, and sisters-in-law, Beatrice Martin, Ambridge, and Marge Roppo, California.
A blessing service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the BOHN-MATICH FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 1099 Maplewood Ave., Ambridge, with the Rev. Father Joseph Carr officiating.
Interment will follow in Economy Cemetery. The Beaver County Special Unit will meet at 10:45 a.m. at the cemetery to provide full military honors.
