John Lawson, age 65, of Dandridge, Tenn., passed away Tuesday morning, April 10, 2018, after a long battle with cancer. John was born on October 3, 1952, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to Herbert C. and Mary L. Lawson. He married his beloved wife of 41 years, Barbara A. Lawson, on April 23, 1977. He was a devoted husband and father and an excellent police officer. John graduated from Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pa., and he served as an MP in the U.S. Army for three years, both here and abroad. After discharge, he became a Fairfax County police officer, serving for 26 years before retiring as a sergeant. John was preceded in death by his father, Herbert C. Lawson, Sr., and by his sister, Mary Caughey. He is survived by his mother, Mary L. Lawson; his wife, Barbara (Toth) Lawson; children, Katie Moody and Christopher Lawson; granddaughter, Dakota Moody; as well as brothers, Chuck, James, Steven and Patrick, and sister, Theresa. A blessing service and interment will take place Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at 2:30 p.m. at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, with Father Joe Carr officiating.
