Irene Panek

Irene C. Panek, 101, of Baden, formerly of Ambridge, died Thursday, August 13, 2015, in Villa St. Joseph.

Born January 2, 1914, in Mount Pleasant, PA, a daughter of the late Andrew and Catherine Gonda Matika, she was a member of the Good Samaritan Parish and also attended Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Conway. She had been a member of the former Divine Redeemer Roman Catholic Church, Ambridge and was a member of the Christian Mothers of Good Samaritan.

She was preceded in death by her husband who was the former mayor of Ambridge, Walter Panek Sr., in 1999.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Walter W. Jr. and Joyce Panek, New Brighton, and Thomas and Patricia Panek, Economy Boro; four grandchildren, Rachel (James) Davis, Ohioville; Dr. Chris (Patricia) Panek, Fondell, PA; Dr. Marnie (Brian) Smith, Avon, CT, and Leslie Conners, Fondell, PA; seven great-grandchildren, Zachary Lamantia, Lauren Lamantia, Hayden Panek, Piper Panek, Amelia Smith, Elizabeth Smith and Tessa Conners, and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Matika, Ambridge, and Dolores Matika, Gibsonia.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Stephen, Andrew, Joseph, Michael and Francis Matika, and two sisters, Marie Oshop and Dorothy Montini.

Friends will be received Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. in the BOHN-MATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 1099 Maplewood Ave., Ambridge, where a service will be held Monday at 1 p.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 1:30 p.m. in the Good Samaritan Church, Ambridge. Interment will follow in Good Samaritan Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff of Villa St. Joseph for their excellent care of their mother for the past 10 years.
